Psalm 114

1 When Israel came out of Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,

2 Judah became God's sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.

3 The sea looked and fled,
the Jordan turned back;

4 the mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.

5 Why was it, O sea, that you fled,
O Jordan, that you turned back,

6 you mountains, that you skipped like rams,
you hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,

8 who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water.

During the time of Exodus, 2 great miralces were accomplished by God - the almost instantaneous parting of the Red Sea and the slow parting of the river Jordan. And the Lord also provided water for His people by making water gush out of rocks when His people were in the desert.

God is truly capable of any miracle, if only we ask of Him. No wonder the psalmist wrote that even the earth tremble at the very presence of the Lord.

Do we fear the Lord and tremble at His presence every time we go for our Sunday services (considered to be the house of God)? Sometimes, we don't. I see people coming in to services late. I see people using the handphone smsing when the pastor is preaching. I see people slouching at the seats, as if God owed them a living. I see people talking with their friends, not giving the pastor any respect.

It seems that many of us have lost the fear of the Lord.

O Lord, forgive us. We repent as a church that we have not taken our church services seriously. Instil in us the fear of the Lord. Help us to come before You every Sunday, hungry for Your word.

Things to ponder
1. Do you think that God is pleased with your behavior when you attend church service? Rate 1 to 10 (10 means very pleased).
2. During church services, what are some of your behaviors that you know God is not pleased with?
3. Pray for yourself to have more of the fear of the Lord. Start by respecting and honoring God during church services.
