PS 100:3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
A self-made man. We often use this to describe a person who built his life from scratch, to arrive at a position of status without depending upon others. In the eyes of most people, definitely a compliment.
However Ps 100 is a reminder that our successes will not happen if God wasn't in it in the 1st place.
When the accolades and high-fives come, it is so easy to just get carried away by self-admiration. "after all, what I did was not trivial..."
Yet the Psalmist reminds us instead to:
PS 100:2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
The fact of the matter is that God has always been good to us, even if we think that we were "self-made".
PS 100:5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Therefore we have every reason, everyday, to "enter his courts with thanksgiving".
Lord, teach me to worship you with reverence everytime I come into your house.
