Pastor YC "Psalm 82: Imperfect Judges under the Almighty God"

If imperfect judges are to execute judgment on earth, who is going to ensure that they are going to judge fairly?

The beginning of Ps 82 says that God is the one who installs judges.
- PS 82:1 God presides in the great assembly; he gives judgment among the "gods"

The end of Ps 82 acknowledges that God is the ultimate Judge.
- PS 82:8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.

Sandwiched between these assurances are descriptions of the condition of human judges, and the honest evalaution is "cannot make it"!

1) They are partial
PS 82:2 "How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Selah

2) They lack in understanding
PS 82:5 "They know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

3) They are just like the mortal men they judge
PS 82:7 But you will die like mere men; you will fall like every other ruler."

The picture is pretty depressing, the only safeguard comes from v1 and v8. We have confidence in the judicial system not just because of the quality of the men, or the rigorous process of selection and appointment, but solely on the sovereignty of God.

Before we arise to complain and blast the lack of justice in our daily lives, have we paused first to call upon the One who installed all these judges? Let's pray for our leaders today!
