Psalm 76 portrays God as both Judge and Warrior.
PS 76:5 Valiant men lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands.
PS 76:6 At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still.
PS 76:6 At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still.
Even valiant men lie plundered and strong warriors cannot raise their hands. The symbols of military power (the horse and the chariot) are also subdued. A modern day parallel would be a destroyed tank? :)
Yet such power is scary unless God is also just - this power being used to save the weak and those who need protection.
PS 76:8 From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet--
PS 76:9 when you, O God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land.
Surely God does more than speaking out and standing up for unjustice, He ACTS against it.
- God fights for us
- God protects us
Let's draw near to Him
