1 My heart is not proud, O LORD,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
2 But I have stilled and quieted my soul;
like a weaned child with its mother,
like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both now and forevermore.
Today's psalm is really timely. Pastor Tommy Tenney had just reminded us that we have to hunger for God in our lives. And Psalm 131 talks about how we need to humble ourselves and come to the Lord like a little child.
Christianity is not about a religion. It's about having a personal relationship with God. We need not always go for accomplishing big and spectacular stuff for Him. Often we just need to come before Him, quieten our souls and seek Him. He will give us the spectacular stuff and results, according to His timing. We need not worry.
Pastor Tommy's point was that the emptiness in our souls can only be filled up by God. Career, family, relationships, studies, and even ministry can't.
Recently, I've been very busy in school, preparing for wedding, church activities, etc. I really need to focus back on God and have a hunger for Him. I need to learn to lay aside all the great and wonderful matters. O Lord, help me.
Things to ponder
1. How hungry are you for God in your life right now? Rate yourself 1 to 10 (10 means very).
2. What are some things that cause you not able to still and quieten down your soul?
3. Pray and be hungry for God. Remember, only He can fill your emptiness. Bring all your empty jars to Him right now.
